(2 Nov 2016) LEAD IN: The art and antique market in post-Brexit Britain is booming, according to London dealers. A weak pound against the dollar and Euro is seeing American collectors in particular start to snap up bargains. STORY-LINE: The art and antiques market in the UK isn't just on target, it's positively booming post Brexit. Dealers here at the Winter Art and Antiques Fair in Olympia say it's a great time to buy because of the weak pound. American buyers in particular are attracted to London with the newfound strength of the dollar. Looking to bag a bargain they could save around 25-30 per cent compared to six months earlier. Craig Carrington is an antique dealer with four decades of experience. He sells many neo-classical antiques on his stand, but his showcase piece is this bust of a Roman goddess, thought to be designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, the same man who designed the Statue of Liberty. He says: "As an antique dealer I think a weak pound is very good news because we sell to international clients and if the dollar is strong, the euro is strong then it's very good news for somebody like me, absolutely." Art dealers are reporting a similar trend. Tanya Baxter runs a gallery specialising in contemporary pieces. She says since the day of the referendum result, announcing Britain would leave the EU, she's been very busy. She says many see the art market as a safe investment in uncertain times. "And with the devaluation of the pound as well as the fact that Brexit has kind of made a cautious and volatile financial market it (art and antiques) is a very, very safe place." According to Baxter the single largest group of buyers is coming from the USA: "Well they're so excited particularly American collectors who we are getting calls from saying 'So what have you? Because I want to spend x amount and will fly over to do so.'" One of the American investors who has come to London to buy is David Ryder. The retired lawyer, originally from Chicago, had just bought this painting by British artist Amy Pugh. He says it's such a good time to buy, with the strength of the dollar against the pound, that he will return next month to buy more art. Ryder says: "England is where we have bought probably 90 per cent of the artwork that we have, and we have a lot in numerous houses. We find this is a good country for selection of different artists, both contemporary and old artists, particularly from the auction houses and this is a particularly good time so we're here now and we'll come back in December again to look at more art." Art and antique dealers haven't just benefited from the dip in the value of the pound. Immediately after the result of Brexit was announced British buyers quickly began to buy art and antiques fearing the collapse in the value of the pound. Art dealer Julian Hartnoll is calling this a 'double-boom' for the industry. Hartnoll says: "There's this nice new phrase, the double-boom. It was the English buying immediately after Brexit because they wanted to get out of pounds and get into objects because they were fearing the pound would become valueless. And then the Americans, as the pound subsided, have overcome their fear of terrorism in England and have started to buy again, so for instance last night my only clients were Americans." Antique jewellery dealers are also benefiting. Iranian jeweller Morteza Mojarad runs the Persis jewellers off Bond Street in London. He says: "I've seen a big improvement, to be honest, since Brexit and that's I think because of the exchange rate, dollar to pound and especially Euro to pounds." But if the situation is good for British based dealers, spare a thought for European antique dealers trying to sell in Britain. Wide of china house wall LEAD IN A Chinese millionaire has opened up his house to reveal thousands of pieces of porcelain. The wealthy collector lives in China's Tianjin Municipality and has spent twenty years building up his "china house". He believes he is giving his collection a new lease of life by presenting it to the public. STORY LINE This is a special house, and it immediately attracts people's attention because of its unusual design. It is decorated with painted porcelain vases from more than two hundred years ago, along with china plates, cats, and stone statues that are thought to be worth thousands of dollars. Even the roof and the fence around the house are decorated. The owner, the millionaire collector Zhang Lianzhi, hopes to prove that antiques are not something that can only be conserved in storage houses. He claims that they have life just like human beings, and they will lose their flavour and colour if they are simply conserved as treasure. Zhang bought the old house with its French-style decorations four years ago. Hundreds of people come to visit the house each day. Special Agent Madeline Hightower (Aunjanue Ellis) Professional Standard's Unit's Head J.J. Laroche (guest start Pruitt Vince Taylor) An antiques dealer (and alleged gun runner) Manuel Montero is found dead in a Sacramento museum. Patrick Jane's obsession with serial killer Red John deepens when Agent Hightower with the California Bureau of Investigation is suspected of murdering Montero. Initially, Jane thinks Hightower is guilty and that she has connections to Red John. Hightower is also linked to the unsolved murder of a suspect who died while in CBI custody. It's La Roche who tells Hightower that she is one of five suspects. When investigators find her fingerprints at the murder scene, she becomes the prime suspect. Jane confronts Hightower about her connection to Red John, and the wily agent takes Jane hostage before she gets arrested by the CBI team. Once Jane figures out that Red John is framing Hightower, he decides to help her flee capture. He lets her go and tells the rest of the team that she's on the run. Hightower agrees to continue investigating the identity of Red John's accomplices from outside the CBI jurisdiction. Against Hightower's recommendation, Jane does not tell Agent Teresa Lisbon about his revelations that Red John is a CBI informant and Hightower is innocent because he's concerned she could be in danger if she knew too much. --- Laroche with Hightower and the project board. Laroche approaches Madeline and shows her his visual reconstruction of CBI which accounts for everyone's whereabouts at the time of Todd Johnson's murder. Hightower admires the project board, and jokes that Laroche must have won a few science fairs. He responds with a smile, then turns deadly serious and states in a terrifyingly menacing voice: "I won all of them!" Watching Pruitt Taylor Vince in this scene is like watching a horror movie. You're scared out of your wits, but fans of the genre enjoy the feeling. I don't like horror movies, but I do love Mr. Vince here. Hightower's fear is also very real in this scene. Again, Ms. Ellis is beyond amazing. Her depiction of Hightower's strong façade crumbling in the face of the staggering evidence was phenomenal. Aside from the acting, this scene is also significant because it lets us know that Laroche's has narrowed the suspects to 5 people. Now we know Hightower is innocent so that leaves 4. Perhaps the reason why Red John set Hightower up is because Laroche came very close to uncovering the real killer. The only question is: was Hightower chosen because she was most convenient (her affair with Howard simply bad luck on her part which Red John used)? Or, was Howard killed intentionally as part of the plan to set Hightower up? I'm not sure, but I'm very interested to see who replaces her. http://reviewbrain.wordpress.com/2011/03/01/red-queen-review/ The.Mentalist.S03E16.Red.Queen.HDTV.XviD-FQM

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal and the same administrative district and lies on a bay of the river mouth of the Tagus River in the extreme southwest of Europe on the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula. - The Marquess of Pombal Square (Portuguese: Praça do Marquês de Pombal) is an important roundabout in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Marquês de Pombal -- Lisboa (1930 and 70 Years Later) Marquês de Pombal square, the heart of Lisbon, in 1930. The lake in the photo corresponds to the former place of a basalt quarry. Like the Champs-Elysees and other great European boulevards, Lisbon's Avenida da Liberdade ends at a large roundabout and a monument. This is the monument to the Marquis of Pombal, the prime minister responsible for the rebuilding of Lisbon following the Great Earthquake in 1755, showing him standing on a column with his hand on a lion (symbol of power) and his eyes directed to the downtown area that he rebuilt. The base is decorated with allegorical images depicting Pombal's political, educational, and agricultural reforms. Broken blocks of stone at the foot of the monument and tidal waves flooding the city symbolize the effects of the earthquake. The surrounding paving stones are decorated with a mosaic of Lisbon's coat of arms. - Lisbon's street markets. You can find the most extraordinary things in Lisbon's street markets, from antiques to clothes, flowers, organic food and much more... - Downtown (Baixa) This part of the city was completely rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake by the Marquês de Pombal. The planned layout, greatly different from what you will see in the more ancient neighborhoods, is a testimony to the ideas of the Enlightenment. - Jeronimos Monastery The Monastery of Jeronimos is some of the most beautiful architecture we have ever seen. The place is very large and sits on the ocean front. The tombs inside are incredible. This church and surrounding buildings are worth a visit. I definitly recommend everyone to go and visit it. The interior is very impressive you must see to believe. - The weather is really bad. Not fun! Take a hot coffee, and enjoy the frozen moment of the rain... after a rainy day.. photo with my smiling Paul under the rain, it's raining but I can feel the warm. Really Enjoy a freshly brewed coffee with Portuguese egg tarts at Starbucks. This tart surprisingly light and fluffy, but it was a bit too sweet for me. In Lisbon, we seem to get a lot of windy, rainy days. so I thought I would share with you guys the ... but as usual once again in good , our dreams of sunny weather were shattered! ... It is just awful, and it's all the rains fault. We following the cruises Arrived to Lisbon, Portugal And Paul use Google maps to check the area. Feira da Ladra (Flea Market) Discover treasures at Lisbon’s most iconic market, the Feira da Ladra, or flea market, where there’s always something original, kitsch or vintage to be found. Come and discover Lisbon’s most original market. The Feira da Ladra, or Flea Market, which is immortalised in the poem by the Portuguese singer songwriter Sérgio Godinho, is held every Tuesday and Saturday in Campo de Santa Clara, behind the monastery of São Vicente de Fora. Traditionally dedicated to selling used objects, you’ll find real gems, azulejos, antiques and handicrafts, amongst indescribable bric-a-brac. The market dates back to 1272 and was held in various parts of the city before settling permanently here. From here you can easily visit the Panteão Nacional and the church of São Vicente de Fora, so the best thing to do is save this neighbourhood for a day when the market is on. Between souvenirs and bargains, you may just take the best memory of your stay in Lisbon from here.

Check out my Lisbon Travel Guide (PDF Download): https://goo.gl/L7cF7X ►Get my FREE e-mail updates: https://goo.gl/JK5Z8L ►Camera I use: http://amzn.to/2dEL3hv On Day 27 of our Round The World Trip for food with Star Alliance, my wife and I took a day trip to Belém to do some sightseeing in Lisbon. We had the original Portuguese egg tarts from Pastéis de Belém. For dinner, we ate at a secret Chinese restaurant in Lisbon. 1:14 Pastéis de Belém - Known to serve the original Portuguese egg tarts, which are called pastéis de Belém, we made the legendary cafe our first stop of the day. The egg tarts are incredibly good, with layers of crispy pastry and creamy egg custard in the middle. I’m not huge on pastries or sweets, but it was still good. Pastéis de Belém also has a selection of other Portuguese sweets, and we had a chocolate filled Portuguese donut at Pastéis de Belém, plus a couple cups of coffee. Total price - 6.50 EUR 5:54 Belém Tower - There are a few very famous attractions in Lisbon located in Belém, and after the egg tart, I headed over to visited the Belém Tower, which is located within the Tagus River. After waiting in line and paying the entrance fee, I explored the tower and I especially enjoyed the view from the top. Price - 6 EUR 8:37 Jerónimos Monastery - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jerónimos Monastery is an incredible feat of architecture. You have to wait in line and pay a fee get entrance into the cloister of the monastery. But it’s well worth waiting out the line because the cloister is incredible. Also, without paying you can go into the church at Jerónimos Monastery which is also spectacular. Entrance to the cloister - 10 EUR per person 11:04 Time Out Market Lisboa - For lunch, Ying and I were hungry, but since it was a Sunday, so many of the restaurants I wanted to try were closed. So we made it back to the center of Lisbon and ended up going to the Time Out Market Lisboa. There are plenty of choices for what to eat at Time Out Market Lisboa, including both Portuguese food and international food. I ordered bacalhau with chickpeas, a famous Portuguese food combination made with salted cod. 13:07 Museu Calouste Gulbenkian - After eating lunch at Time Out Market Lisboa, we continued on to Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, a well known art museum in Lisbon. Free entrance on Sunday 14:07 Secret Chinese food at Chinês Clandestino Restaurant - Ying and I were both still hungry after only a small lunch. Again, most of the Portuguese food restaurants I wanted to eat at were closed on Sunday, so we both decided to eat Chinese food. After doing some searching I came across Chinês Clandestino Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant with no signs. The food was overall quite good, and I have to admit that both Ying and I were ready for some Chinese food! Total price - 27.20 EUR for everything 20:51 A Ginjinha - I had already ended the video for the day, but when I was A Ginjinha as we walked home, I decided to stop in this legendary takeaway bar and try a cup of Portuguese cherry ginginha. It was a great way to end the day. Day 26 was alright. I was a little disappointed we weren’t able to eat authentic Portuguese food, but things don’t always work out the way you expected them to when you travel, and that’s alright.
